My first Toggle session was when I was in Acupuncture School. I was having trouble with material retention, had a lack of focus and test anxiety. The session with Laurie resulted in a drastic change in my ability to retain material, focus in class and take tests. My GPA rebounded and my scores stayed between 98-100 the rest of my school career. As a practitioner and Therapist of Toggling, I have worked with students who faced similar issues to my own, although they were middle and high schoolers. The younger students grasped the concept much more readily and were able to achieve immediate results in their ability to retain material and focus in class. Generalized anxiety improved significantly and as students were taught how to use this method on their own, they felt more in control of their lives and emotions. I highly recommend this for students with ADHD, ADD, memory or focus problems. In addition this works well for students who are in need of improved social skills and increased confidence around peers.
I successfully use Toggling (aka Cognitive Polar Transformation), for children with PTSD, ADHD, ADD and generalized anxiety about life. The youngest clients were 6 and the eldest is age 83.

To Police Officials and Executives who have an interest in and are considering using “The Toggle Effect Systems” to resolve stress and anxieties in their officers and ultimately improve the officers’ attitudes and performance. Its common knowledge that policing is a stressful occupation and this specific system has been designed and developed to directly address these occupational plights; particularly in these troublesome times. I have examined data and reports from field applications and found this system to be a viable system in accomplishing its formal and stated goals. Consequently, I would encourage you to give it a serious review.

We live with stress every day.  It divides itself into two categories, physical and psychological, both of which can be viewed as negative energy.  What if there was a way to switch this harmful, life-sapping negative energy into a positive, life-affirming force?  In her new book, TOGGLE IT, Laurie Heusinger has not only addressed this worldwide concern, but discovered a simple, yet highly effective way of using our own, personal energy to create a higher quality of life that enriches and enhances emotional and physical well-being. Besides lowering stress, the technique of "toggling," can significantly reduce emotional issues and alleviate chronic physical pain.  Having read TOGGLE IT several times, I believe that Ms. Heusinger has tapped into something very special and beneficial.  Through this method of "toggling," every person can raise the bar on their own quality of life.  I enthusiastically recommend this book to everyone.

I have been Toggling for a little more than three years now and it has helped me through many aspects in my life. This technique has allowed me to help myself, not only emotionally but physically as well. I have been able to let go of things that I would normally hold on to that were bad for my life. I am able to sleep better, and what used to be chronic back pain has been greatly reduced. With the new goal setting approach that we have taken with Toggling I have received many things that I want in life. Society has indeed taught us that we cannot have whatever we want, but that is proven not to be true. I have Toggled things that at one time I didn't believe I was worthy to have and have received them in a very minimal amount of time. Transforming my emotions back to their positive state has changed my life and I will continue doing it to always better myself and my ability to help others.

My entire family has been in Laurie's Toggle sessions for over 2 months now and I am absolutely amazed at what a genuine healer she is and how much "toggling" works. I was an RN for 22 years so come with a lot of medical background and I have to say it all makes such sense and it really works. I went in for my 26 y/o son to help with his ADHD. I am much calmer, any pains I have go away when I toggle and my son's focus has steadily improved. He is learning to be back in touch with his emotions and express himself in a more productive communication manner than prior to Laurie's teachings.  She has such a calm, healing spirit about her-I wish I could take her home with us.

From my work with veterans, I understand the importance of body centered practices in healing the trauma that stays locked in our minds and bodies. With the proper guidance, Toggling seems particularly well suited to contribute to the healing of PTSD-related symptomatology. Additionally, as wrestling with emotions is so fundamental to the human condition, Toggling offers the potential to help all of us live more vitally and with greater peace.

Over the past eight plus years, incorporation of the “Toggle Technique” into my daily routine, and enjoyment of the inspiration and insights that this allows, has become a way of life. I continue to find new applications all of the time and am consistently amazed and inspired by the transformations that I experience. Thank you Laurie for your efforts in continually searching for and discovering new ways to make this incredible technique even better!

Laurie's research and knowledge into this subject is phenomenal. As a healer (DOM), I realized early on many of my patients would reach a plateau either with me or other healing modalities. This will give me that missing link to release patient's emotional barriers to a healthier happy life.

Although I was apprehensive at first, Toggling has improved my sleep, lessened my pain, and I've seen improvements in my glucose levels.  On top of all that after 30 years I quit smoking which I couldn't have done without using this technique.

CASE HISTORIES

Cognitive Function

CPT has significant impacts on cognitive functions and stress reduction, and on improving focus, overcoming mental blocks, and improving one's sense of well being.

In 2008, one of my clients brought into my clinic her nine year old son who was experiencing difficulty keeping focus long enough to complete even the simplest assignments. I asked him a few questions and then I wrote a sentence on a piece of paper. I asked him to copy the sentence. He started to write the words and by the third word he had slowed down and was retreating into a very closed posture. I asked him to close his eyes and tell me the color of his feeling. As he focused right on the stress itself, I talked him through the shift. Within a few moments I noticed his eye contact was stronger and he was more interactive. I then asked him to write the sentence again. This time he completed the task. His mother was surprised at the speed of the change and said she had never seen him complete a task so quickly.

In 2005 I worked with a child who struggled with ADD. The mother did not want to resort to drug therapy and brought the child into the clinic. The child worked with one of my therapists trained in using the Toggle Technique. First the child was asked to talk about her fears, which she said felt like monsters to her. Then she was asked to draw a picture of the monsters. Once she had completed the picture she was asked to close her eyes and pull the monster into her mind. The young girl was eager to follow the directions. This shifted the emotional tension around monsters for her. She was much more animated after the session and her mother reported notable improvement in her daughter's scholastic performance thereafter.

I have taught workshops which teachers have attended. Afterwards they reported feeling much better in class and felt more capable of handling the high stress situations that are part of their daily routines. In 2005 and in 2016 two of them began teaching the method to the students as well. In both cases they reported that the students who were taught the technique consistently engaged in the learning tasks quicker, were more receptive to the lessons and, for the first time, exceeded testing performance expectations.

In 2016, I worked with a young 8 year old who struggles with dyslexia. This condition made his spelling assignments especially difficult. I taught him how to use the technique on the fear that came up when taking tests. I told him to do this while practicing his spelling and during his tests. His performance improved immediately and he consistently scored higher on all subsequent tests. On his own he began using CPT while playing baseball, and his performance has continued to improve dramatically.

In 2010 I used the Toggle Technique to help a 17 year old with some learning difficulties. He struggled in school and often times resorted to being the class clown. Teachers described him as very smart, but lazy. He skimmed through, but was struggling academically. One day we were discussing a subject and I asked him a question that he didn’t know the answer to. I gave him the answer and then asked the question again. It was noticeable how uncomfortable he became when he couldn’t answer it, even though he had just discussed the answer a few moments before. I asked him when he remembered first feeling so uncomfortable with learning. He responded with a story of being shamed when he was about 6 years old. I asked him to recall all of the details of that incident in order to bring up the shame and embarrassment. I then guided him through the process of shifting that exact emotional tension. He definitely noticed feeling different afterwards. A few moments later I asked him the original question we had been working on before and he immediately knew the answer. The next day he told me that complex math problems were clearing up in his head. Thereafter, he was better able to concentrate and retain information. He has since successfully completed an associate’s degree in criminology, helicopter piloting training, and aeronautical mechanics.

Health and Pain Management

There is equal success in the application of CPT  for physical improvements and pain reduction.   Using this technique we can affect the direct mind/body connection, yielding nearly immediate pain relief and health improvements. By applying the Chinese Medical model, we can target specific stress reactions to restore health and vitality.
Here are a few of those stories:

Pain

CPT is very effective in reducing pain. In 2005, when I was just beginning to work with pain management, I was called by the wife of a man who had suffered a fall from two stories high, breaking his neck, clavicle, and shoulder. He had been out of the hospital for two weeks and trying to live at home by taking maximum doses of pain med's and muscle relaxers. Wearing a halo to stabilize his head, he was having excruciating spasms every 45 minutes and lasting 30 minutes each around the clock. When I arrived at his house to see him he was writhing on the floor in such pain that I had to first use CPT on myself to manage my own reaction to his extreme level of suffering. When his spasm subsided, I taught him the technique and talked him through transforming the emotions of fear, guilt and despair that were a result of the injury. When the next spasm overtook him I helped him focus on the pain and use the CPT technique to control it. At the end of the spasm he fell asleep for 10 hours, getting the first deep rest in over two weeks. Thereafter, he still suffered some spasms but they lasted just 5 seconds and within a few weeks he was off his pain medications completely. His doctors expected him to need medications and be debilitated for the rest of his life. Instead he was fully recovered and back to work driving trucks in less than a year, and has been free of debilitation and pain since. He reports that doctors disbelieve his story until they see the scars from his injuries and surgical procedures. He is now working full time in construction.

I have since started teaching the classes  in Key West. One of my students is a dental assistant. She now teaches her patients the technique and finds they have much less pain during dental procedures. In some cases pain med's are not used at all. She reports that the patients are often astonished at how well the mental focus technique works to help them overcome the anxiety and the pain.

*****************************************************************************************

In 2013 I had a personal experience  after a fall which left me with a broken ankle. Within moments of the fall I started focusing on the pain, treating it the same way I treat stress. The pain seemed to worsen in the first few seconds, but I kept with the focus. After about 2 minutes the pain disappeared completely. I could feel the weakness when I put pressure on the ankle and was very aware not to walk on it, but I did not have the pain. I went to the ER for Xrays. There they confirmed the break and I was given a walking cast and pain medications to take for the next few days. I did not take or need any of the pain med's. Over the next few weeks I focused on any lingering discomfort during the healing process and repeated the CPT focus for a few moments at a time. When I went in to the doctor for the follow-up a few weeks later I had regained full range of motion in my ankle, and did not need the physical therapy usually required after such a break. The attending physician was quite impressed by my rapid and complete recovery.

Migraines

A client of mine came in with chronic weekly Migraines. Her eyes were partly closed by the severity of the pain. She was a nurse and had just come back from the ER where she had undergone tests to evaluate whether or not she was having a stroke due to the severity of the headache. At the time of this visit I had been experimenting with CPT to treat pain issues. I knew from my studies in Chinese medicine that the technique worked on stress , and I suspected stress was a large part of the headache trigger. Keeping this in mind I asked her what stress issues had come up just before the headaches started. She said it was usually fear.  I asked her to focus on the fear itself and guided her through the shift. Within a few moments she described a strange feeling in her head. This continued for about a minute after which time the headache was completely gone. She found it remarkable that she was pain free. The next time she came in, a few weeks later, she told me she had not had another migraine since the treatment. Three months later she was still headache free. I have since taught this work to numerous migraine sufferers and they have all had similar results. When they feel the migraine coming on, they now focus on the emotional stress and use the technique. Not only does the immediate headache improve, but also the frequency of the headaches is diminished.

Diabetes

In the early stages of developing the Toggle Technique I had the pleasure of working with medical students at the University of New Mexico. They approached me with a study they were doing on Type 2 Diabetes. They told me there seemed to be a correlation between depression and the onset of this disease. They were looking into alternative therapies to treat the depression with the idea that it might improve the diabetes. I then approached two of my clients who had diabetes with this idea. I asked them if they would be willing to work on their depression using the Toggle technique. They both agreed.

The first one had developed diabetes several months after her daughter’s death from cancer. That had been 10 years prior, and she had been taking daily medication for diabetes since then. I asked her to focus on the loss of her daughter to bring up the despair and sadness. Then we focused on shifting this emotional pain by having her visualize it and draw it into the center of her mind. When the shift took place she was surprised to find she felt an instant return of  joy. Within 24 hours of our session her blood sugar dropped to normal levels and she had to completely stop taking her medications.

The second patient suffered more from general low grade depression which she had suffered for many years. We discussed major events in her life that were connected to the depression. As each of these were brought up, I guided her through the process of shifting the emotional pain. Each shift gave her a better sense of well-being, and without change to her diet or routines her A1C readings improved and it became necessary to adjust her medications accordingly.

*****************************************************************************************************************

I am now treating a young girl who is severely type 1 diabetic.  CPT has been very effective in stabilizing her blood sugar levels by managing her stressors. In six months time she has reduced her daytime medication doses by 75%.  Her doctors have been amazed by how well she is doing given the history and severity of her condition. Her mother also uses CPT to manage her own stress and is thus better able to cope with the high demands of her daughter's condition.

I have since taught the technique to several diabetics and they have all used it as part of their treatment program to help keep their blood sugars stabilized. In all cases to date A1c readings have improved and medications have been reduced for those practicing CPT. It would appear that managing the emotional system is as important as managing diet and exercise in reducing the effects of diabetes.

Labor and Delivery

In 2010  I  had a client who was nine months pregnant. She came into my clinic on a Friday, and was distraught because labor had not started although she was past due for delivery.  Her doctors had told her they would induce labor that next Monday if she had not gone into labor over the weekend.  She told me about her last month of pregnancy and that she was concerned because she had not had any notable contractions for the entire month. She was also suffering from pain in both wrists. I referred to the Chinese medicine chart and found that her wrist pain ran along the hormonal meridians called Triple Warmer. This was not surprising since instigating labor is a hormonal function.  This system is affected by the stress of anger, especially at loved ones. I asked her if there were any conflicts going on with those closest to her. She said there was and that this conflict had come up about the same time the wrist pains had begun. I helped her use CPT to transform the emotions of anger, resentment and avoidance related to his conflict. Within a few moments the pain in her wrists was alleviated. When she thought about the conflict she felt much better about the situation and could see some room for reconciliation. About 15 minutes later a strong contraction started. She left the office and I received a call 13 hours later to inform me that the baby was born healthy and giving thanks for my help.
